Company description:: The Caribbean Environmental Health Institute (CEHI) will be hosting one of the largest environmental events to be hosted in the Caribbean: the 2nd Caribbean Environmental Forum and Exhibition (CEF-2); to be held in Trinidad and Tobago, May 31st – June 4th, 2004.
CEHI is the technical arm of CARICOM with responsibility for environmental management, including environmental health in the Region.
In October 2002, CEHI together with a number of regional and international partners convened the First Caribbean Environmental Forum (CEF) and Exhibition in Castries, St. Lucia. This event attracted over 300 persons from within the region and internationally, including Ministers of government, donor and development agencies, the private sector, industry, researchers, the media and the youth. The responses and reactions that we received during and after this event were very positive and encouraging. Since then we have had many queries about the next CEF and we know that many of the participants at the First CEF are looking forward to CEF-2.
CEF-2 will be hosted together with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and supported by other national, regional and international agencies, including the Tourism & Industrial Development Company of Trinidad & Tobago, TIDCO. In organizing the CEF-2, CEHI recognises the fact that there is an on-going need to bring together diverse and interests in sustainable development and environment to discuss areas of common concern to the Caribbean especially and to foster cross-fertilization of ideas and perspectives from various sectoral interests. Emerging global issues such as trade, technology and communications, sectors such as agriculture, tourism and industry, climate, health, water, hazardous waste, energy, transportation, and transboundary issues have dictated that a more coherent, sectoral approach be taken in terms of development and the way forward for the region.
CEF-2 will coincide with the celebration of World Environment Day in June as determined by the United Nations.
Objectives:
·To act as a regional arena for bringing together key Caribbean and international stakeholders in the public and private sectors, civil society groups, the media, academics, researchers, experts, donor and development agencies, technical agencies and institutions, among others, to discuss issues and share experiences related to environment and development
·To focus public attention on key environmental concerns of the region and internationally
·To present an opportunity for networking and partnership arrangements among a wide and diverse group of persons and institutions concerned with or involved in environment and development.
·Expose the region to new and relevant environmental technology and other products
·To provide a regional forum for presenting and discussing issues related to SIDS Plus 10, 2004 in Mauritius.
